Career Ventures

Long time no update.

Again, my desire to concentrate on resolving my career plans has left this place a little desolate.  However, as I begin (or, rather, shift) my professional career, I hope to find time to post accomplishments and updates concerning career and personal ventures.

Updates since August:

I have unofficially secured a position with a local Commercial Real Estate brokerage to work as a sales/leasing agent.  I will update the position once it is finalized on my LinkedIn and other profiles.

Meanwhile, I continue to--occasionally--freelance as a writer with UrbanCincy.  My latest post is a news article from early Sept. on City Council's recent budget talks:  http://www.urbancincy.com/author/zacharyschunn/

I have remained somewhat active politically, helping with the NO on Issue 48 effort, and plan to vote in the election tomorrow.  I believe Issue 48 if passed will hurt local business, especially the real estate business, in Cincinnati--including my own--and that is why I feel comfortable publicly expressing my opinion on it.  I also remain personally interested in other issues.

And on a more personal note:  my girlfriend and I just celebrated 8 months together over the weekend.  Woohoo!  :-)

As always, to contact me connect with me on LinkedIn (professional associates), email me at zacharyschunn@gmail.com, or--if I know you personally--add me on Facebook or Google Plus.

Website Updated; Job Wanted

So, after some cleaning up, I have decided not to add anything more to this blog other than basic updates concerning myself.  Updates will be infrequent and will mostly concern personal accomplishments, life changes, etc.

The first of these personal updates?  I need a job!  I am currently searching for employment, preferably in the real estate industry.  My knowledge and interests concerning real estate are broad, and I would be willing to entertain openings in financial, development, property management, and selling/brokerage roles.  I will graduate in September with an MBA from UC (concentration in Commercial Real Estate), and would also be open-minded about other business and finance-related positions.  Please connect with me on LinkedIn (link at the top) and/or email me directly if you have anything that may be of interest to me.

Personal associates may also connect with me on Facebook or Google Plus.

Re-Tooling Blog

If you have managed to make it here by now, you have probably noticed the place is a little barren.

Well, the blog was originally intended for my muses and ramblings... but, I have proven too busy to consistently contribute, and thus I have now decided to take a different direction with it.  I am hoping in the coming weeks to re-design the blog to highlight my accomplishments, whether they pertain to architecture, art/design, real estate, sustainability, writing, etc.  The end goal is that this will compile all the resources and links available from me on the Internet already.

Just for good measure, here are a couple of my past architectural projects.  Enjoy!

Recognizing cultural diversity key to Cincinnati’s future

For all the efforts towards developing and growing cities, often it is the culture and history of the people that get lost.  This is an important component of what makes cities great, and it is a component that is unfortunately beginning to disappear in many great American cities, including Cincinnati.  In Cincinnati, neighborhoods seem to be losing their cultural uniqueness, and are simply being transformed into population clusters.  Further, it is the negative stereotypes--rather than the positive ones--that seem to persist in these neighborhoods.  This negativity has led to a "me vs. you" culture that brings down the city as a whole.

In this op-ed for UrbanCincy, I fathom that "by better recognizing and marketing what is great about the different neighborhoods in our city, we can begin to change what is often an overall negative attitude into a positive one."

Successful urban design sets stage for successful cities

"When it comes to local architecture, Cincinnati deserves good design."

This begins my journalistic debut, an op-ed posted over at UrbanCincy.  I go on to judge the accomplishments so far of Cincinnati's recent architecture, specifically in its urban context, and end with a hope for the future.  Read the rest here:
